In the private-house districts the subject is usually larger areas of glass - living-room windows, glazed terraces and roof lights that create a greenhouse effect in summer. On the Zemgale plain a building is rarely shielded by a neighbour's house or tall woodland, so the sun reaches the windows directly and for a long time. We don't hide the fact that Jelgava sits in the outer part of our 50 km service ring. The drive from Riga along the A8 is direct and easy, and there is a rail link as well, so getting there is no problem in itself. The cost of the journey is included in the price we quote, and we don't add a separate call-out charge.
The practical consequence lies elsewhere. Every trip to Jelgava takes up part of a working day, so a very small order - one small window or two little panes - falls under the €75 minimum order and works out at more per square metre than the client would want. The sensible solution is to combine: tint all the windows on one side at once, add the terrace or loggia glazing, or agree with the neighbours and book several flats in one stairwell for a single visit. That brings the cost per window down and makes the façade look more consistent.
A few more local considerations that we go through on the phone. The Lielupe and the Driksa divide the city, and the traffic concentrates on the bridges, so in the centre we usually plan the start of the work outside the morning peak. In the historic centre and the narrower streets it helps to say in advance where it is possible to stop with materials. In blocks of flats, useful information is the floor and whether there is a lift - a long roll of film is harder to carry up narrow stairs than in a lift.
