Window film for buildings - a solution that doesn't mean replacing your windows

Most window problems aren't really the windows' fault. Glass lets heat, ultraviolet radiation and prying eyes into a room - even when the windows are brand new and technically faultless. Window film tackles exactly those problems, working with the glass you already have.

Why film rather than new windows or blinds

When a room gets too hot, or passers-by can see straight into a ground-floor flat, the first thought is often to replace the glazing units or put up blinds. Both have drawbacks. Replacing windows is expensive, slow and involves building work. Blinds and curtains block the view and the daylight - the problem is only solved while they are closed, and then the room is dark.

Window film works differently. It is a thin layer of clear or frosted material applied directly to the glass. Depending on the type you choose, film reflects part of the sun's heat, cuts ultraviolet radiation, makes the glass opaque from outside, or holds the shards together if the glass is broken. A window stays a window - the view and the daylight remain, and all that changes is what the glass lets through.

Installation is done in a single day, with no dust and no building waste. In most apartments the work takes a few hours. The room can be used again straight away.

The problems film helps to solve

  • Overheating in summer. South- and west-facing rooms, roof windows, glazed terraces and offices with large glass walls.
  • Being overlooked from outside. Ground-floor flats, bathrooms, bedrooms, meeting rooms and clinic consulting rooms.
  • Glare on screens. Office desks by the window where all you can see on the monitor is a reflection.
  • Furniture and stock fading. Parquet, sofas, books and goods on display in shop windows, all damaged by ultraviolet light.
  • Glass safety. Large glazed surfaces, door glass and any spot where flying shards would be a serious risk.
  • Plain, characterless glass. Office partitions, shop windows and entrance doors that need a design or a company logo.

The types of window film we install

Every job has its own film. If you aren't sure which one will solve your particular situation, describe the problem in the form - we'll recommend the best option and explain why.

From enquiry to finished job

The process is simple and predictable. We take enquiries through the form and then get in touch by phone - that suits both sides, because anything unclear can be sorted out there and then.

1
You fill in the form

Tell us about the property, the rough area and the problem you want solved. If you don't know which film you need, simply describe the situation - for example, that the room is unbearably hot in the afternoon.

2
We prepare an initial quote

On the phone we suggest the most suitable films with a price per square metre and an approximate total. We explain the differences so the choice makes sense to you.

3
Free on-site measuring

We come out, measure the glass precisely and assess access - the floor, how the windows open, whether ladders are needed. After that the price is final, with no extras added later.

4
Installation

We prepare and thoroughly clean the glass, cut the film to size and apply it. When we're finished we clear everything away - the room can be used immediately.

Worth knowing before you enquire

  • You don't need exact measurements up front. A rough number of windows and area is enough - we measure precisely ourselves.
  • Photos help. If you can send photos of the windows from inside, the quote will be more accurate - we can see the access and the window type.
  • The price covers both film and labour. There is nothing extra to pay for the installation.
  • The minimum order is €75. For smaller jobs that means it pays to combine several windows into one visit.

Answers to the questions we hear most

Prices start from €25/m² for solar control, frosted and mirror films. Decorative films with a pattern start from €29/m², reinforced safety films from €35/m², and the thickest grades from €41/m². The price covers both the film itself and the labour. Prices are shown excl. VAT and the minimum order is €75. The final figure depends on the size of the glass, how many panes there are, access and how much offcut waste is involved - which is why we give an exact price after measuring.

Yes - that is how it is normally done. The film is applied to glass that is already installed, so there is no need to remove, dismantle or replace the windows. In most cases we apply the film from inside the room. This is exactly why film is considerably cheaper and quicker than replacing a glazing unit or an entire window.

A quality film applied on the inside of the glass will normally last for many years. Its lifespan depends on the type of film, how much direct sun the glass receives, humidity in the room and how the film is looked after. Film applied to the outside is fully exposed to the weather and wears out faster than film applied inside.

That depends on the film you choose. Films differ in light transmission - some are very light and almost invisible, others are distinctly dark. If your aim is to cut the heat while keeping the room bright, we choose a lighter film with higher light transmission. If your aim is privacy, a darker or frosted film will suit better. We talk this choice through before the work starts.

Yes. Removing old film is a separate service and prices start from €8/m². How long it takes depends on the age and condition of the film. Old film that has baked in the sun tends to tear into pieces and the adhesive has to be removed separately - that takes longer than lifting relatively new film. After removal we prepare the glass so that new film can be applied straight away.

For a typical apartment with a few windows the work usually takes from a couple of hours to a single day. For larger sites - offices, shop windows, glazed façades - we schedule the work separately and fit it around your working hours so day-to-day operations are not disrupted.
