A garden on a new Mārupe street doesn't shade anything yet. The apple trees and maples were planted a couple of seasons ago, the trunks are thin, the canopy hasn't filled out, and it will be years before it starts holding back the afternoon sun. In the meantime the sun falls on the glass with nothing in its way - from morning to evening, at full strength. Which is exactly why people who have moved from an old apartment block into a newly built house complain about the heat far more often than about the rooms being too cool.

Mārupe is a fast-developing Riga suburb where the housing is largely new. That in itself creates a technical difference from older districts.
In contemporary detached and terraced house designs, the glazed area relative to the wall is far greater than in older buildings. Panoramic living-room windows, floor-to-ceiling sliding patio doors, glazed extensions and south-facing dining areas all bring considerably more solar energy into the room. On a summer afternoon a room like that heats up faster and cools down more slowly than a similar-sized space with two ordinary windows.
The second factor is the garden. In new streets the planting is still young: the trees are in the ground, but the canopy shades nothing. In an older neighbourhood a big lime or maple on the west side cuts out a good share of the afternoon sun, and the people living there barely notice it. On a new street that natural shade simply doesn't exist yet, and the sun falls on the glass from morning to evening with nothing in the way. It is one of the reasons the heat in a newly built house takes people by surprise when they have previously lived in a block of flats.
The third practical issue is the home office. Remote working is widespread in the suburbs, and the desk is often placed right by a large window, because that is the brightest spot. The result is reflections on the monitor, sun in the eyes, and a room that by the afternoon is too hot to work in comfortably. Tinted film solves two things at once here - it reduces the glare and the heat without blocking the view of the garden.
Alongside the residential part there is a completely different kind of building stock. The proximity of the airport and the major road junctions means offices, warehouses and logistics premises, where the windows are larger still and the problems are different. There it is more often a matter of a glazed façade that overheats an entire open-plan floor in summer, of sun reflecting on staff screens, of glass partitions needing an opaque band, and of goods or materials that mustn't be allowed to fade.
Another Mārupe characteristic is that the built-up area gives way from dense suburban streets to villages and countryside. An address within the same municipality does not mean identical conditions: in one place there is a made-up driveway and a kerbed street edge, in another a gravel road and a ditch. So we always start the assessment from the specific address, not from an assumption about the district.

4. A fixed price. After measuring we give you a figure covering both the film and the labour. It doesn't change afterwards unless the order itself is added to.
5. Installation. A typical detached house or flat is finished in a day. We move the furniture by the windows aside and tidy up afterwards. Over 15 years we have completed more than 400 properties, and most of them are jobs on exactly this scale.
Mārupe is reached from Riga along Kārļa Ulmaņa gatve, the A10, the ring road and the airport approach roads. The distance is short, but these roads are busy at the morning and evening peaks. So we usually plan trips towards Mārupe outside the rush hour and agree a specific time by phone, rather than promising an exact minute in the middle of a jam.
In the new residential districts the local street network tends to be narrower, and the surface varies according to how far the development has progressed. In practice that means only one thing - it's worth telling us where there is space to pull up by the house and whether the driveway is clear. With terraced houses the question comes up more often, since the parking is shared.
Commercial premises - offices, warehouses and logistics buildings - usually have their own access passes and health-and-safety rules. If the site requires advance notice or the work has to be done outside working hours, we settle that before the measuring visit. Larger panes and windows at height are handled with the appropriate equipment.
Winter doesn't rule the work out, but for film to bond the glass has to be warm and the room heated. If the house isn't heated yet or the site is still under construction, it is better to wait - otherwise the film will dry unevenly.

We travel throughout Mārupe municipality, not just the town itself. Villages and rural addresses fall within the same 50 km service radius around Riga. The only practical difference is that access and road surfaces at the edges of the municipality tend to differ from those in the densely built streets, so it is worth giving a precise address in your enquiry.
Yes, it is one of the most common jobs in this kind of housing. Film can go on as soon as the windows are installed, while the glass is clean and unscratched. The only condition is that the glazing units must be fully fitted and the silicone dry. If the house is still being built, it is better to schedule the work once the finishing is complete, so construction dust doesn't settle on fresh film.
