Film on your existing glass - no new windows, no building work

The service is straightforward: we apply film to the inside face of glass that is already installed, changing how much solar heat, brightness and ultraviolet radiation reaches the room and, where needed, how much can be seen in from outside. The windows do not come out, we do not touch the frames, and a couple of hours later the room can be used as normal. In Saulkrasti that is especially convenient, because many houses are only lived in for part of the year - there is no sense planning a construction-scale job where a single day will do.

We work exclusively on building glass: detached houses, summer houses, flats, guest houses, shops and smaller public buildings. Over 15 years we have completed more than 400 projects in Riga and the surrounding area. Saulkrasti falls within our 50 km service radius, so we do not charge separately for the call-out.

The starting point is always the same - a completed form, a call from us within a few minutes and a free on-site survey. The quote shows a fixed figure that already covers both the film and the fitting.

A house that stands closed all summer is a different problem from a house that is lived in

Saulkrasti is a long, drawn-out seaside town in Saulkrasti municipality - a strip between the sea and the A1 in which detached houses, summer houses, small guest houses and a handful of apartment blocks are interspersed with pine forest and dunes. The key difference from other places around Riga is not the age of the buildings but the rhythm of use: a large share of the properties are seasonal. They stand empty for most of the year and are full precisely in the months when the sun is at its highest.

That changes the task itself. In a closed-up house where nobody has opened a window or drawn a curtain for a week, the heat does not disperse - it accumulates. The owner arrives on a Friday evening to a stuffy room, and the first few hours go on airing it out. The glazed end of a living space or a terrace facing south or west, which in winter feels like the best part of the house, is often the very place you cannot sit in on a July afternoon. Film solves this not with air conditioning, but by keeping the heat out at the glass - and it works even when nobody is there and the electricity is switched off.

The other side of seasonality is fading. When a house stands closed, nobody draws the curtains every afternoon. Furniture facing south-facing windows, sofa fabric, wooden floors and wall finishes in a coastal house bleach out faster than the owner notices, because weeks pass between visits. UV protection film is ordered here more often than in most other places, and frequently alongside solar protection on the very same panes.

On top of that, light behaves differently on the coast. By the sea and over pale sand, light also reflects up from below, so brightness at the window is not simply a matter of how high the sun is. The pine forest that covers much of the town gives shade, but it is dappled and shifting: the same window can be in shade in the morning and in full sun at midday. That is exactly why, by the sea, we never assess a house from a photograph - we drive out and look at how the light falls at the relevant time of day.

The third factor is that many houses are left unattended. Ground-floor windows, terrace doors and glazed porches are left behind in an empty house at the end of the season. Safety film does not make a window unbreakable, but it holds the fragments together, so getting in through the glass takes more time and a great deal more noise. On a quiet out-of-season street, that is a difference you can feel.

The films most often requested for properties in Saulkrasti

☀️

Solar control film

The default choice for the south and west sides. It significantly reduces solar heat and brightness while keeping the view through the window. Often fitted to terrace doors and large living-room panes.

🌡️

Heat rejection film

For when the main complaint is the temperature in a glazed veranda, a roof extension or a loft room that has stood shut all week. Visually it is relatively discreet.

🌞

UV protection

For furniture, flooring and fabrics in a house where nobody draws the curtains between visits. It helps reduce fading with virtually no change to how the window looks.

🌫️

Frosted film

For bathrooms, saunas and the windows that look straight onto a neighbour's garden or the footpath down to the beach. It works regardless of light levels, including in the evening.

🛡️

Safety film

For the ground floor and terrace doors of a property that stands empty out of season. It holds the fragments together and makes getting in through the glass slower and louder.

🪞

Mirror film

For when you want daytime privacy without curtains and less heat at the same time. Worth remembering that in the evening, with the lights on inside, the effect reverses.

If you are not sure which film suits your window, choose “Not sure - I need advice” in the form. Prices for every type are set out on the prices page.

From enquiry to finished window

1. Enquiry and call. You fill in the form with the address and a short description. We are in touch within 5 minutes, go through which windows are causing trouble and which way they face, and can usually give you an approximate price range over the phone.

2. Free measuring. Measuring and quoting in Saulkrasti are free. We measure every pane, look at the condition of the frames and the access, and usually bring samples to hold up against your own window. For a seasonal property we combine the measuring and the fitting into one trip wherever possible, so you do not have to drive out to Saulkrasti twice.

3. A fixed price. The quote gives a figure covering film and fitting. Prices are excl. VAT, with a minimum order of €75. If there is old film on the windows, we show the removal on a separate line.

4. Fitting. We work from inside the room. The glass is cleaned thoroughly, the film is cut to size on site for each individual window and applied with a water solution. A typical house or summer house is finished in a single day. For a while afterwards the film may look slightly hazy or show tiny water bubbles - these disappear as the adhesive layer dries, and the windows should not be washed for a few days after fitting.

Access and the call-out - honestly

Saulkrasti is reached from Riga along the A1 heading north, and the town stretches for several kilometres along the sea. The practical consequence is that one ”Saulkrasti” address can mean a noticeably different driving time from another, so we plan the schedule around the specific address rather than the name of the town. We confirm the exact arrival time on the call.

In summer the coastal streets carry more traffic and offer fewer free parking spaces. During the warm season we therefore offer earlier morning slots and ask you to tell us in advance where we can pull up with the materials - in some streets the approach to the house itself is narrow or unsurfaced sand. If we know that beforehand, we prepare the materials accordingly and the work is not held up.

At seasonal properties, the crucial thing is being let in. In most cases the owner drives out and stays for the day, because for a typical property that is all it takes. If that is not possible, we arrange it with a neighbour or the property manager. In an unheated house in cold weather, the room has to be brought up to a normal indoor temperature before we start - film cannot be applied to cold glass.

We have no branch in Saulkrasti and have never claimed otherwise. The team and the materials set out from Riga, which is precisely why we agree the timing in advance. The whole service area is shown on the service area page.

Where else we travel in this direction

Saulkrasti sits at the northern edge of our service radius, so we usually schedule jobs in this direction together. As well as the town itself we cover the whole of Saulkrasti municipality and the settlements along the A1 and the coast, plus Ādaži, Vangaži and Sigulda. To the south of there begins the ordinary Riga territory we work in every day.

None of these places is a branch of ours. It is simply a list of how far we travel. If several owners in one street or village need work doing, say so in your enquiry - covering several properties on one trip is more convenient for us and for you, and there is no need to set aside a separate day for each one.

For the full list of towns we cover, see the service area page; for the types of film and the differences between them, see the Services section.

Questions about our work in Saulkrasti

The work itself can be done all year round, because the film is applied from inside and the glass is warmed to working temperature beforehand. Only the logistics change. In summer the coastal streets carry more traffic and offer fewer free parking spaces, so we plan visits for the earlier morning hours. In spring and autumn the drive is more predictable and it is easier to find a time that also suits the owner. If the house is let out in summer or used every weekend, the most practical window for the work is usually April or May before the season, or September after it.

Yes, and in Saulkrasti it is one of the most common kinds of job. The only difference is organisational - someone with a key has to let us in. In most cases the owner drives out and stays for the measuring and the fitting, because for a typical summer house the whole job is a single day's work. If the owner cannot be there, we arrange it with a neighbour, the property manager or the letting agent. In an unheated house in winter, the room has to be warmed up before we start.

During the survey we look at three things that are genuinely different by the sea. First, the condition of the glass - salt air and sand leave a deposit on the outer face, but the film goes on the inside, so what matters more is the inner face of the glass and the state of the frame. Second, reflected light, because light off the sand and the water comes from below and from the sides as well as from above. Third, the shade cast by the pines, which shifts through the day and is therefore no reason to rule out film where the sun does reach the window around midday.

Yes. Removing old film costs from €8/m². In summer houses we quite often find film applied many years ago that has turned purple, cracked or started lifting at the corners. We take it off, clean away the adhesive residue and only then apply the new film. We show both jobs as separate lines in the quote so it is clear what you are paying for.

Prices start from €25/m², and that includes both the film and the fitting. Prices are excl. VAT, with a minimum order of €75. Measuring and quoting in Saulkrasti are free, and we do not charge extra for the journey itself - Saulkrasti falls within our 50 km service radius. The final figure depends on the number and size of the panes, the film you choose and the access to the windows.

Yes. We cover the whole of Saulkrasti municipality, including the settlements along the A1 and the coast, as well as Ādaži, Vangaži and Sigulda. We have no branch in Saulkrasti - the team and the materials set out from Riga, so we try to schedule jobs in one direction on the same day. If a neighbouring house needs similar work, say so in your enquiry and we will fit both properties into one trip.
