We work exclusively with architectural glass. We apply film to the window already in place, changing how much solar heat, brightness and ultraviolet radiation reaches the room - or how much of the inside is visible from the street. The windows stay as they are, the frames aren't touched, and the work leaves neither dust nor decorating behind it.
In Ogre the enquiries come from a very wide range of properties, and that makes sense. With 22,499 residents it is a municipal centre rather than a dormitory town: alongside the districts of flats and the streets of detached houses there is a genuine town centre with shops, salon premises, offices and public buildings. So a single week can bring heat rejection film for the south side of a flat, frosted film for a glass partition in an office, and solar control film for a shop window where the stock is fading.
In fifteen years we have completed more than 400 properties in Riga and Greater Riga. In practice that means most Ogre properties are familiar to us as types - a masonry block of flats, a newer detached house with extensive glazing, a ground-floor commercial unit with a shopfront. What is least predictable is usually not the glass but the access, and what stands in front of the window on the inside.

Ogre stands in wooded, hilly country, and in many places it is specifically pines that grow around the houses. That isn't a decorative detail - it directly affects the choice of film. A pine's crown is high and sparse, so the shade beneath it isn't dense but flickering: the sun's rays come through the gaps between the branches and move around the room all day long. A deciduous tree in summer gives far more even, denser shade.
The second difference matters even more. A birch or a maple sheds its leaves in autumn, and from October to May the window is left completely exposed - precisely when the low winter sun strikes deepest into the room. A pine keeps its shade all year. That means the amount of light in a house surrounded by pines varies less over the year, but the overall daylight level in the room is also permanently lower than on an open plot.
The practical conclusion is simple: two identical houses with identical windows need different films if one stands among pines and the other on a bare plot. In a house shaded by pines a markedly dark film can make the living room gloomy as early as September, so we usually choose a lighter film with higher light transmission and let the technology, rather than the tone, hold back the heat. An exposed window on the same street may well suit a substantially darker option. That is exactly why, during the measuring visit, we look at where the trees stand, how high the crowns are and whether they are on the south side or the east.
The second factor in Ogre's building stock is the rhythm of home and work. A large proportion of residents work in Riga during the day, so the house stands empty and shut through the hottest hours. By the time people return in the evening the room has already warmed up and airing it helps little - the heat is stored in the walls and the furniture. In houses like these, film gives a more noticeable effect than where somebody is at home during the day and can close the blinds in good time.
In the blocks of flats the two most common jobs are overheating on the upper floors on the south and west sides, and ground-floor privacy beside the pavement. In the detached-house districts, large glazed living-room walls, glazed terraces and roof lights dominate, and it is there that the temperature climbs fastest in summer. In the town-centre commercial units the question is more often about the contents of the display - fabrics, cosmetics, wooden furniture and printed material fade in the sun faster than shopkeepers expect.
One more local nuance is the proximity of the rivers. Ogre stands on the Daugava and the river Ogre, and for properties right on the bank an open water surface adds reflected light from below - brightness that arrives at a low angle and that the trees don't catch. In such cases we check for it separately during the measuring visit.

4. Installation. A typical flat or one floor of a house is finished in a day. The glass is cleaned, the film applied and smoothed out, and the offcuts taken away with us.
After installation, traces of the mounting solution remain under the film for a while. That is normal - we explain how long to wait and when the window can be washed.
Ogre is one of the furthest points in our 50 km radius, and we're open about that. We drive from Riga along the A6 - the link is direct and predictable, but the round trip takes time. So we plan practically: the best approach is to do everything possible in a single visit rather than splitting the work across several journeys.
In practice that means two things. First, if the house has windows in several rooms or on several floors, we look at all of them in one measuring visit, even if for now you are only planning one room. Second, if a neighbour, a relative or another owner in the same building is also considering film, it is worth enquiring at the same time - the route is one and the same.
The town is strung out along the river, and the railway divides it in such a way that the northern and southern parts aren't always connected as directly as the map suggests. For properties near the level crossings we allow extra time. In the detached-house districts you can usually drive right up to the house in summer; in winter, if the road hasn't been cleared, it is better to say so in advance, since we carry the materials and tools in by hand.
In blocks of flats it helps to know the floor, whether there is a lift and whether the stairwell has an entryphone. We have no office or branch in Ogre - we drive out from Riga. In practice that means we cover the whole eastern corridor on the same route: Ikšķile and Ķegums in the same Ogre municipality, as well as Salaspils, which lies on the way back to Riga. If there are several properties, we fit them into one day.

Ogre falls within our 50 km service radius from Riga, and measuring with a quote is free. Travel isn't a separate line in the estimate - it is already built into the square-metre price. The only condition is the €75 minimum order, which applies equally across the whole service area. If the job is very small, two bathroom windows for instance, we usually suggest combining it with something else in one visit - another room, a stairwell window, or a neighbour's property in the same street.
Often it is. The shade of a pine differs from that of a deciduous tree: the crown is high and open, so the shade flickers and is uneven rather than dense. Sunlight comes through the gaps between the branches almost all day, only at varying intensity. On the other hand, a pine gives shade in winter too, when a birch or a maple is already bare. The practical sequence is this: during the measuring visit we look at how high the crowns are, which side they stand on and how far from the façade, and we choose the light transmission accordingly. A house surrounded by pines usually suits a lighter film than the same house on an open plot.
Yes. Ikšķile and Ķegums sit in the same A6 corridor, and Salaspils is on the way back to Riga, so we cover all these places on the same trip. We have no branch or office in Ogre - we drive out from Riga. If there are several properties along the corridor on the same day, we arrange the route so that all of them are completed without repeat journeys.
In Ogre this comes up very often, because many residents are away during the day. We agree the time in advance, and measuring can be done in the evening or at a weekend. For installation we need someone to let us in and the rooms to be accessible; a typical flat or a single floor of a house takes a few hours, so everything is often finished in one visit. The most important thing is to tell us in good time which windows need doing, so that half the rooms don't turn out to be locked.
It can, but it isn't always sensible. Installation needs clear access to the glass from inside across roughly a metre, and stock or mannequins have to be cleared out of the display. For shops and salon premises in central Ogre we more often suggest starting in the morning before opening, or working after closing. The installation itself is clean and dust-free and requires no building work, but the glass has to be thoroughly cleaned beforehand.
The film can be used straight away, but traces of the mounting solution remain beneath it for a while and may look like small hazy patches or tiny bubbles. In summer these disappear within a few days; in cool, damp weather the process can take a couple of weeks. During that time the window shouldn't be washed and the film shouldn't be pressed. This is the normal drying process, not a defect.
