We work exclusively with architectural glass. We apply film to windows already in place, to door glass, shopfronts, glass partitions, balcony glazing and rooflights. No building work is involved, the furniture usually only needs shifting a little, and by the evening the room is back in normal use.
The jobs we're called out to in Riga fall into four recurring types. The first is heat - a flat or office facing south or west that warms up in summer faster than the air conditioning can cope with. The second is privacy - a ground-floor window onto the pavement, an office looking straight at the building opposite, a clinic or salon frontage. The third is glare and reflections on screens. The fourth is glass strength and UV protection - in shops where stock fades, and in rooms with parquet or varnished boards on the floor.
After 15 years in the trade and more than 400 completed properties, most of the solutions are standard - but in Riga you can almost never choose one from the address alone. The buildings here are simply too varied: there are more differences between a Vecrīga apartment with three-metre-high windows and a Pļavnieki flat with modest openings than between two different cities. That is why measuring is free and always done on site.
Riga is not a uniform city. The building periods differ sharply, and it is precisely that which determines which film will work in a given window.
Pre-war buildings with tall, divided windows, often still in their original timber frames. The glazed area in a single room is large, and so is the heat gain. In historic buildings you have to allow for restrictions on the appearance of the façade, so neutral or light films tend to suit better here than a pronounced mirror. Narrow streets and parking restrictions mean the working time has to be agreed in advance.
Soviet-era standard-series blocks. South-facing flats overheat in summer, because the outer walls store heat and the windows are not large. That is exactly why dark film is usually the wrong choice here - it would leave the room gloomy. The practical answer is a lighter heat rejection film that cuts the heat but keeps the daylight.
New developments with glazed façades and floor-to-ceiling windows. Where the glass is effectively the whole wall, solar heat pours in all day and by the afternoon the flat or office becomes unusable in summer. This is where film makes the biggest difference, and large uninterrupted panes are also the most straightforward work technically.
Mixed building stock - timber houses, brick buildings, detached homes and newer developments all in the same block. In the timber houses the frames are often narrow and the glass divided into several panes, so the work is finer and takes longer than on a single sheet. In detached houses the usual jobs are the south-facing living room and a glazed terrace.
Residential districts with a mix of standard-series and newer buildings, and plenty of greenery. The trees shade only some of the floors - on the upper storeys the sun strikes directly, and in summer the flats immediately beneath a flat roof heat up the most. Here people often order film for just one or two rooms, wherever the problem is actually felt.
In Sarkandaugava, Āgenskalns, the centre and along the main roads of the residential districts, a ground-floor window sits at pavement level. Passers-by look straight into the room, and the usual answer is curtains drawn all day. Film gives you back the daylight and the view out, leaving the curtains for the evening.

Riga is home to central government, offices, professional services, education and healthcare institutions, and a large share of the retail and hospitality sector. Each of these property types brings its own typical brief.
In city-centre offices the most common complaint isn't heat but reflections on screens. If the desks sit against a glazed façade, or another building faces you, monitors become almost unreadable in the afternoon. A light solar control film or a reflective film helps here, while also reducing overheating and letting the air conditioning work less hard.
For shops and salons on Brīvības iela, Barona iela and the other retail streets, the main problem is the window display: the sun bleaches fabrics, leather, packaging and the goods on show. UV protection film cuts ultraviolet radiation substantially without changing the look of the display. Logos or printed graphics are often added to glass doors and shopfronts at the same time.
Clinics, salons and consulting rooms need privacy that doesn't depend on the time of day - and that calls for frosted film rather than a reflective one. For production facilities, warehouses and glass partitions we prepare an individual quote.
A very common situation in Riga: the windows already carry film applied ten years ago or more. It has turned purple, it is scratched, there are bubbles under it or it is lifting at the corners. New film never goes on top of that - the result would be uneven and wouldn't last anyway.
We take the old film off and clean away the adhesive residue until the glass is smooth again. This work costs from €8/m². How long it will take can't be predicted in advance - some films come away in one piece, others have to be separated layer by layer. So we assess it on site during the measuring visit and give you an honest answer.
Once the glass is clean we usually apply the new film on the same visit, if the volume allows. On larger sites - an office floor, say, or a row of shop windows - we split the removal and the installation across separate days and fit them around your opening hours.

Solar control films are the most common choice for flats. They reduce heat, glare and ultraviolet radiation, and come in a range of shades, so they suit the smaller windows of standard-series buildings too. Heat rejection films are the right choice where the problem is purely temperature rather than the view - in new developments with large glass walls, for instance, where you don't want to darken the room.
Mirror films turn the window into a mirror from the outside during the day while also reflecting away part of the heat. They work well on ground floors and in offices, though it is worth knowing that in the evening, with the lights on inside, the effect reverses. Frosted and blackout films are the only ones that deliver privacy regardless of the lighting - which is why they are chosen for consulting rooms, bathroom windows and glass partitions.
Safety films hold the shards of broken glass together. In Riga they most often go on ground-floor shop windows, glass doors and offices, and in homes with small children. Decorative films with patterns and bespoke printing are used in salons, cafés and glazed office partitions, where privacy and presentation are needed at once.

Riga is our base, so a call-out within the city limits is not an extra line on the invoice. There are practical details, though, and it is better to know about them in advance.
In the centre and Vecrīga, narrow streets and paid parking mean the material has to be carried in from the nearest place we can stop. We tend to schedule work there for the morning. In the apartment districts there is normally space in the courtyard, though some have a barrier or a pass system - do tell us beforehand.
Daugava crossings and rush-hour congestion affect only our arrival time, not the price. If the job is in Pārdaugava and the measuring visit is in Teika, we schedule them on separate days rather than back to back.
The floor and the lift only matter if the work has to be done from outside or if large single panes need lifting. Most work is done from inside the room, so the floor in itself is not a problem.
In offices, shops and clinics we're happy to work outside opening hours if that is simpler - early in the morning, say, or after closing.
Riga is where we mainly work, and from here we also travel out into Greater Riga and beyond. We regularly work in Mārupe, which is largely new detached and terraced houses with big patio doors, in Jūrmala with its timber architecture and glazed verandas, and in Ķekava and Salaspils.

There is no call-out charge within the city limits. Outside Riga we cover roughly a 50 km radius.
In the centre and Vecrīga we usually need paid parking or a short stop by the entrance, since the material and tools have to be carried inside. In the residential districts the courtyard is normally enough, though some have gated yards or a barrier requiring a pass. Mention it in your enquiry or during the measuring visit and we will arrange a time that makes access straightforward. It does not normally affect the price.
It is a fair question, because the window openings in standard-series buildings are relatively small and a dark film really can make a room gloomy. That is why in these flats we usually recommend lighter solar control films that cut the heat and the glare but let the daylight through. We bring samples to the measuring visit and hold them against your window, so you can make the choice on the spot rather than from a catalogue description.
Yes. We work both in individual flats and in communal areas - stairwell windows, glazed entrances and balcony glazing. If the work affects the appearance of the façade, it is worth checking the building's rules before ordering and clearing it with the managing agent or the owners' meeting. A façade looks tidier when the film goes on an entire section rather than a single window.
