We fit window film to flats, detached houses, new developments and retail premises across Imanta in western Pārdaugava. This is a neighbourhood where two addresses a few streets apart can call for completely different film, so we give our recommendation window by window. The word "Imanta" in an enquiry tells us surprisingly little. This western Pārdaugava neighbourhood is large enough and varied enough that a single name covers a nine-storey estate with small panes, a quiet street of detached houses with glazing facing the garden, shopping-centre storefronts and a newer block glazed almost from floor to ceiling. Those four properties are minutes apart by car, and not one of them needs the same film.
So here we don't give a recommendation for the neighbourhood - we give one for the window. During the survey we go through every pane individually, looking at its size, the direction it faces and what is happening on the other side of the glass, and the quote sets out which film is intended for which window. One property can easily end up with three different solutions. And if a particular window would gain nothing from film, we say so and leave it out of the quote.
The work itself is straightforward: the film is applied to the existing glass, windows are not removed and frames are not touched, and a typical property is finished in a single visit. Behind us are 15 years and more than 400 completed properties in Riga and within a 50 km radius. We have no office or branch in Imanta - we travel in from another part of the city - but the neighbourhood is within the Riga city limits, so there is no call-out charge and measuring and quoting are free. In Imanta the building types aren't separated into distinct zones - they stand side by side. That makes the choice of film a question about the specific address and the specific pane, not about the neighbourhood as a whole.
Most homes in Imanta are in system-built blocks of flats. The windows there are usually fairly small and there are a lot of them, so the first thing we tell a client is a warning against film that is too dark. When a small room with two windows is covered in a dark material, winter genuinely turns it gloomy, and the film ends up being something people want removed. In most cases the right answer is a lighter film with higher light transmission - it cuts heat and glare while leaving the daylight in place.
Top floors under flat roofs heat up the most in summer, and they often need a stronger heat rejection film than lower floors in the very same building. On ground floors the question is a different one - the windows look out onto courtyard paths, playgrounds and parking areas, and people walk past close to the glass. Here the usual choice is mirror film for daytime privacy, or frosted film on selected panes.
If several flats in one stairwell or on one elevation want the work done, it is worth coordinating. The façade looks uniform from the outside, we get everything done in a single visit, and the €75 minimum order stops being an issue.
A few streets from the high-rise blocks the private-house quarters begin, and there the brief changes completely. The windows are larger, and there is often garden-facing glazing, sliding doors or a glazed terrace. Film delivers its most noticeable effect on properties like these, because the glazed area is large and the sun reaches it without any shade from neighbouring buildings.
At the same time, one solution almost never suits an entire private house. The south and west elevations need solar protection, the panes facing the neighbours need privacy, and the north-facing windows often need no film at all. We say so plainly: if a window would gain nothing from film, we leave it out of the quote.
Trees are another difference. Established gardens cast shade that is dense in summer but gone by autumn - so the heat problem and the glare problem show up at different times of year in these houses, and we choose the film according to which of the two bothers you more.
Imanta has shopping centres, street-level shops, salons, clinics and everyday service premises. Storefronts bring their own brief: stock fades in the sun, in the afternoon the whole street reflects back off the glass, and in the evening a lit interior is on full display. Here we most often combine solar protection across the whole storefront, a frosted band or zone wherever a view in from the street isn't wanted, and safety film on the glass right beside the pavement.
Timing matters on commercial jobs too. We can start early in the morning before opening or carry on after closing, and larger areas are split across days so the premises keep trading.
In the newer buildings the glazing is noticeably larger, in places almost floor to ceiling. Technically these are the easiest jobs - big flat spans, straight frames, even glass - and it is precisely here that the film's effect on room temperature is most obvious. At the same time the glazed area is large, so the total square metreage, and therefore the price, climbs faster than in a standard flat.
In flats like these the building's rules on the appearance of the façade often have to be taken into account as well. If a strongly reflective film isn't permitted, there is almost always a neutral option that is close to invisible from the outside.
The most versatile option for both flats and garden-facing glazing on detached houses. Cuts heat and brightness while keeping the view through the window.
For top floors under a flat roof and the large glazed spans in newer developments, where temperature is the main problem.
For ground-floor windows beside courtyard paths and playgrounds. By day the view in disappears; at night, with the lights on inside, the effect reverses.
For bathrooms, stairwell windows, consulting rooms and storefront zones. The light stays, the view through does not - at any time of day or night.
For street-level storefronts, shops and ground-floor windows. Holds the shards together if the glass is broken.
For parquet, furniture and stock on shop shelves - anywhere a material on the sunny side fades faster than it should.
You don't have to decide in advance. We bring samples to the survey and hold them against the actual glass - in Imanta that is particularly useful, because the same material looks noticeably different in the small window of a standard flat and in the garden-facing glazing of a private house. 2. A call within 5 minutes. We get in touch and talk the situation through. Often the conversation alone makes it clear whether you need a lighter or darker film and roughly what it will cost.
3. Free on-site measuring. We come out, measure every pane, look at the frames, the condition of the glass and the access, and show you samples. In Imanta this step usually also settles which windows don't need film at all.
4. A fixed price. The quote covers film and labour together, excl. VAT. If several types of film have been chosen for one property, the quote shows which film goes on which window. The price doesn't change afterwards as long as the scope of work doesn't.
5. Installation. A typical flat is finished in a day; a larger private house or commercial property in one or two. We clean the glass, cut the film on site, protect sills and floors, and clear everything away afterwards. The film takes a few days to dry out fully, and during that time you may see slight haziness on the glass - that is completely normal.

Imanta sits in western Pārdaugava, and the main approaches are Kurzemes prospekts, Jūrmalas gatve and the nearby Kārļa Ulmaņa gatve. It is easy to reach, but the neighbourhood has two quirks we allow for when planning a visit. The first is the railway line, which cuts the area in two, so crossing from one side to the other isn't always the straight run it looks like on the map. The second is that the courtyards between blocks are extensive, and the right entrance isn't always the one nearest the street.
Driving times in Riga depend on the hour, on roadworks and on the specific address, so we don't promise an exact minute of arrival - we agree a time window and call when we're on the way. The Jūrmala direction is busier during summer mornings and evenings, and we factor that in.
We carry materials and tools to the property by hand. So it helps to state the floor in your enquiry, whether the stairwell has a lift, and where we can stop by the building to unload. With those details the team starts work as soon as it arrives instead of hunting for the entrance.
Because the building stock here is so mixed, we have no single Imanta recommendation. In practice three things decide the choice: how big the window is, which way it faces and what is going on behind the glass. A small flat window with a modest glazed area won't take a dark film without consequences for the light in the room. Large garden-facing glazing will take it easily. For a storefront by the pavement there's an extra question - durability, not just sun.
That is why during the survey we work through all the windows in turn and record in the quote which film is intended for which pane. One property can perfectly well end up with three different types of film - it is no more complicated, and it often costs less than a single uniform solution across every pane.
