Frosted window film looks like sandblasted glass: it lets daylight into the room but makes it impossible to see what is happening inside. Unlike mirror film, it works day and night alike. We install it across Riga and within a 50 km radius, from €25/m².
Frosted film is a pale, matt layer of material applied to the glass. Visually the result is indistinguishable from sandblasted or acid-etched glass: the surface looks evenly milky white and does not reflect the surroundings.
The principle is straightforward. The film does not block light, it diffuses it. Light rays passing through are scattered in many directions, so no image can be made out on the other side. Almost as much light enters the room as before; it simply becomes softer and more even, without harsh shadows.
In practice that means the room stays bright while the view through the window disappears in both directions. Close to the glass a dark silhouette or a patch of colour may be discernible, but not detail. In a bathroom or a consulting room that is entirely sufficient.
If you want to keep the view out and only need privacy during the day, mirror film will suit you better. If you need completely opaque glass with no light transmission at all, take a look at blackout film.
This is the main distinction between the two privacy solutions, and it settles the choice in most cases.

Frosted film does not have to cover the entire window. Very often the lower section up to roughly eye level is enough. That screens off what a passer-by or a neighbour can see, while the upper section stays clear, keeping both the view of the sky and the maximum brightness in the room.
In offices, one or two horizontal bands across a glass partition are a popular solution. They give a seated person partial privacy while also making the glass visible, so nobody walks into it.

On large glass surfaces and doors, frosted film is often combined with safety film where, alongside privacy, it also matters that the glass does not shatter into fragments if broken.
Sandblasting permanently alters the surface of the glass itself. It cannot be made clear again, and the only way to change anything afterwards is to replace the pane.
Frosted film solves that problem. It can be taken off and the glass is left exactly as it was. In rented offices that is often the decisive argument, since premises frequently have to be handed back in their original condition, and film changes nothing permanently.
The same applies to a changing layout. If in a couple of years a meeting room becomes an open working area, or an office changes function, the film is simply removed or replaced with a different design. Removing old film is a separate service, priced from €8/m².
